Googlahoo or Yahoogle => Google + Yahoo or Yahoo + Google

On 12th June 2008, the most interesting thing happened in the history of internet. Two giant Internet portals Yahoo and Google agreed to work together. Yahoo has signed with Google. Yahoo will be outsourcing a portion of its search ad inventory to Google, as well as display Google ads beside their own search results. Yahoo gets to pick when and where such ads will appear.
At the heart of the deal is Yahoo's effort to remain in control of its business after sidestepping a US$47.5-billion buyout attempt by Microsoft Corp.
So, Who hired Whom? Yahoo hired Google or Google hired Yahoo? Or they just want make Microsoft Jealous?
Lets talk about it: Yahoo hired Google as a salesman by saying that, I have good traffic on internet, you can come and sell ads from my shops(Websites). :P
Google hired Yahoo by saying "Look Yahoo, I have huge traffic on my website and I also have excess amount of ads. Would you like to sell some ads from your shops(sites)?" :D
Now you have to decide "who hired whom?".
Microsoft had hoped to use Yahoo as a weapon in its efforts to slow Google's growth, but It's hard luck of Microsoft. Now MicroSoft has been clean Bowled Out by Yahoogle (Yahoo + Google). I can clearly see that MicroSoft is leaving the filed of Internet. You too can see the sad face of Microsoft. That was a nice googly ball by Yahoo.
Keep trying MicroSoft. You are getting more and more micro and soft to get crushed.:D We public love Google not for its politic, but for the value it generates for us. Its innovating. Its making our life easier. What are you doing?
This tie-up is the beginning of the second evolution of search engine markets. The race for commercial tie-ups will hopefully also speed up the race for developing better search technologies.

ThanQ.

PS: Don't forget to click ads. :P

The Longest Domain Name:

Last week I encountered with a very interesting thing on internet. That is nothing but The longest domain name on internet.
I started typing in randoms words like Googled, Googler etc. Then I started increasing the o's of google, and I found that every domain has been taken. Then finally a searched on google and found that domain name with 59 o's was also taken.
Internet domain name allows sixty three characters maximum, it doesn't include .com, .co.in or .UK.
When I googled more on this (the longest domain name), I found some more domains who claims to having the longest domain.
http://3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944592.com/
This domain has the value of pi up to 63 characters after decimal. 3 is the subdomain.
http://www.thelongestdomainnameintheworldandthensomeandthensomemoreandmore.com claims to be the world’s longest domain name. But is it? According to the domain registrars, the longest legal domain name is 63 characters starting with a letter or number and already exist many domain with 63 characters.
The Guinness Book of Records has said it won't record longest domain names as records, "because there's no merit whatsoever in this. It takes little to no effort and is similar to taking the largest number in the world and then adding one to it".

Some other interesting domains are:

I am wondering why would anyone register all these domains ? No one can type such a long address in address bar.
Registering a very long domain name is good for a publicity stunt to attract media attention but does nothing to help your visitors remember your domain name.
Nobody will type in these long domains; they are visited by clicking links or selecting from a list.
It would have been better if it was an actual website and not just a page built for the worlds longest domain.

Interesting Part-1, A 17 year old girl is earning $70k /month from internet...

Hi Friends,
As i promised in my first post that I will be posting about some interesting websites. So this is my first attempt and hope you will like it.
This post is about a 17 year old girl who is earning more than $70k per month from her website.

Name - Ashley
Age - 17
Location - Michigan, United States
Website - WhateverLife.com

Her website provides you more than 4000 free layouts for Myspace. These layouts work in: Myspace.com, TeenChill.com, Vampire Freaks, 2BMATES.com. So far she has made more than $1 million from her site at Whateverlife.com. Most of this income comes from Google AdSense. Her first AdSense paycheck was $2,790. She had also rejected a $1.5 million buyout offer.
Whateverlife attracts more than 7 million unique visitors and 60 million page views a month.

She started her website at the age of fourteen. Now, she has bought her own home, added more pets in her life, been to Hawaii, San Francisco, New York, etc. (:P) It all started as a hobby. She began dabbling in Web-site design eight years ago, when she was 9. When she wasn’t playing games, she was teaching herself the basics of Web design.

One thing that struck me when I first visited her site was the unconventional navigation scheme and a good "look and feel" (pink-pink, everywhere pink in her website). I suppose it’s well suited for the statistic its targeting. The design has an added advantage in that the ads look as though they are part of the content, which I am sure improves the page click through rates tremendously.

She has dropped out of high school to concentrate on her online business. If you were in her position would you consider dropping out of school to concentrate on your business?

SSL makes your website secure...

I was developing website for a company and found 3 easy steps to implement SSL on Tomcat. Just follow these three steps and make your website secure.
1. Generating the Keystore file
2. Configuring Tomcat for using the Keystore file
3. Configuring your web application to work with SSL

1. Generating the KeyStore file

The keystore file is the one which would store the details of the certificates necessary to make the protocol secured. Certificates contain the information as to who is the source from which you are receiving the application data and to authenticate whether it is the intended party or not. To make this keystore you would have to use the keytool. So open command prompt in Windows or the shell in Linux and type:

cd %JAVA_HOME%/bin on Windows

cd $JAVA_HOME/bin on Linux

You would land up in the Java bin directory. Now time to run the keytool command. You have to provide some parameters to the command as follows :

keytool -genkey -alias ranjeet -keypass ranjeet -keystore ranjeet.bin -storepass ranjeet

Keep one thing in mind that both the keypass and storepass passwords should be the same. The .bin file is actually your keystore file. It would now start a questionnaire. So fill in the relevant details accordingly. Look below for a reference as to what to answer for the questions.

What is your first and last name?
[Unknown]: ranjeet vimal
What is the name of your organizational unit?
[Unknown]: home
What is the name of your organization?
[Unknown]: get-i-news
What is the name of your City or Locality?
[Unknown]: mumbai
What is the name of your State or Province?
[Unknown]: maharashtra
What is the two-letter country code for this unit?
[Unknown]: IN
Is CN=ranjeet vimal, OU=home, O=get-i-news, L=mumbai, ST=maharashtra, C=IN correct?
[no]: yes

The command would then conclude. It would make a .bin file with the name you had provided inside the bin directory itself.

C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_02\bin\

Put the .bin file in the webapps directory of Tomcat. This is required to avoid the need to give an absolute path of the file in the next step.

2. Configuring Tomcat for using the Keystore file

Here we would be making some changes to the server.xml file inside tomcat to tell it to use the keystore which was created in the earlier step for configuring SSL. Open the file server.xml which can be found as:

/conf/server.xml

Now you have to modify it. Find the Connector element which has port=”8443″ and uncomment it if already not done. Add two lines. The highlighted lines are the newly added ones.

maxThreads=”150″ minSpareThreads=”25″ maxSpareThreads=”75″
enableLookups=”true” disableUploadTimeout=”true”
acceptCount=”100″ debug=”0″ scheme=”https” secure=”true”
clientAuth=”false” sslProtocol=”TLS”
keystoreFile=”../webapps/techtracer.bin”
keystorePass=”ttadmin” />

You can notice that I have given the path to the keystoreFile property as relative to tomcat bin directory because the startup command will look for the .bin file. Now all you have to do is start your server and check the working of SSL by pointing your browser to the URL to:

https://localhost:8443/

Now that you have your tomcat running in the SSL mode you are ready to deploy an application to test its working. You must note that still your tomcat can run in normal mode too at the same time i.e on port 8080 with http. So it is but obvious that any application deployed to the server will be running on http and https at the same time. This is something that we don’t want. We want our application to run only in the secured mode.

3. Configuring your web application to work with SSL

In order to do this for our test, take any application which has already been deployed successfully in Tomcat and first access it through http and https to see if it works fine. If yes, then open the web.xml of that application and just add this XML fragment before web-app ends i.e

<security-constraint>

<web-resource-collection>

<web-resource-name>securedapp</web-resource-name>

<url-pattern>/*</url-pattern>

</web-resource-collection>

<user-data-constraint>

<transport-guarantee>CONFIDENTIAL</transport-guarantee>

</user-data-constraint>

</security-constraint>
